First, pick out your balloons. We've been trying to teach Theo his colors and counting, so this was a good activity for that.
Second, have a mommy put drops of food coloring into the balloons and fill with water. Theo liked to feel the balloons with water, but definitely had to be monitored from throwing the balloons and trying to bite them. He was also frustrated he couldn't see what I was doing in the sink. So, he went down for a nap while I filled the rest of the balloons.
We filled 8 balloons with different colored water.
Then we buried them in the snow to freeze. Mason's commentary after the fact was that he didn't really think burying them was the best way to keep them cold, and suggested next time we just leave them out in the cold air. It took about a day and a half to freeze.
Theo and I unburied them and peeled off the balloon layer, while Daddy shot our photos!
Our blue one shattered, and it was Theo's favorite one! He loved smashing the little pieces and playing with the blue ice!
