On naming the child: Part 2

If you read the last post about funny baby related stories, you would see that my students are calling the baby Leroy, and my principal started calling the baby Bubba which has apparently spread to my sister and mom. I'm not sure what it's saying if they like Bubba more than Leroy...oh well

A conversation with a student last week while I was heating up my lunch, and she was eating in my room with a few other students:

K: Mrs. Kehs, what are you naming the baby?
Me: Secret...
(Silence, the kids go back to talking when a light goes off in my head)
Me: Wait, the baby's name isn't going to be Secret, I meant we aren't telling the name, it will be a secret
K: Ohhhh, what's wrong with Secret?
Me: I'm not black K....
(I can only way this to her because she's black and she calls me her white mamma, so we have a black-white relationship, not really explainable)

With Mason tonight before he was going to sleep for a flight:
Me: So, I put up the new ultrasound picture in my classroom, and the kids say the baby looks like a dinosaur, a T-Rex. Sigh :/
Mason: Dinosaurs are cute...we could call the baby Rex
Me: Um, no
Mason: Even better, what about Tyrex?
Me: Goodnight Mason....

After a week off....

there are a few funny kid stories to tell...

1. The dialogue between one of my junior students and me:
R: Mrs. Kehs, do you want to know what my mama said when I told her you were pregnant?
Me: What did she tell you R?
R: She said, ooooohhh, white people are so nice when they're pregnant; not like us black folks

2. During my Junior English class when I was trying to get the students to quiet down and listen and I was just sorta standing there watching them:
D: Guys, shut up, Mrs. Kehs is in a good mood and we want to keep her that way. This pregnancy thing has her in a good mood, thank goodness when she's in the seventh month and turns a beast we'll be on summer vacation.

3. The junior BOYS comments upon coming back to school Tuesday walking into the classroom as I greeted them at the door.
N: Hey Preggers, how's the baby?
D: How's Leroy? I've decided to call the baby Leroy, it doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl, I'm calling it Leroy

4. After my sister wrote a comment about the baby having a Southern drawl, on facebook, my principal decided to tell her the baby was going to be Bubba Kehs (since Bubba is a perfectly good Southern name)- my sister has decided to refer to the baby as Bubba now...
