Today we got to spend resting and touring around Fairchild
Air Force Base and Spokane, Washington.
I’m so glad that it worked out this way, and that we ended driving
yesterday to spend an extra night at Fairchild on base instead of at the Belton
Chalet. Somehow being on an Air Force
Base and in a TLF just feels like home.
We were able to spread out, repack things in the car, do laundry, and
have a day where we weren’t hiking and feeling rushed.
Thanks to my friend Megan, we had some wonderful suggestions
of things to do with the kids. We went
to Franks Diner for breakfast. It was
perfect! It was an old train car
converted to a restaurant, and since it was a Thursday morning, there wasn’t a
wait to eat, although every seat was filled.
Woodrow was particularly uncooperative during this meal since he just
wanted to throw EVERYTHING on the floor.
Theo thankfully was really content to eat his chocolate chip pancakes
and drink milk through his twisty straw.
The food was really tasty, and the portions were huge! Leftovers for tomorrow-woot!
We then headed to the Riverside Park where the kids got to
play on a huge Radio Flyer Wagon statue that was actually a slide and had
monkey bars beneath. There were also
large blocks for the kids to play on. We
walked through the park and enjoyed seeing the ducks, river, a carousel, and
water falls. The kids played at a
playground in the park and by then the parents were pretty tired. Mary Lou’s Milkbottle is a must. The
milkshakes were delicious! Theo got
strawberry, I got Peanut Butter, and Mason got a City Sludge (Chocolate, fudge,
and brownies).
Mason drove us around the base for a quick tour, since he
had been here a few years ago for SERE training. It’s a really nice base, and I could see us
living here, although with Mason’s career path, it’s highly unlikely we’d get
stationed here.
