Family Driving Vacation-Day 11: Tacoma, WA to Portland, OR

Last night was a rough night.  For some reason Woodrow thought it would be awesome to cry from like 4:45-5:45 on and off.  Mason and I were both up with him, changed him, cuddled him, fed him, and he was just not too happy.  He woke up around 8:30 and I cuddled him in bed, but Theo was up pretty soon thereafter.  Mason has the worst of the family cold right now, and we both could have used some more sleep, but we were up so we packed up all our crap and headed on our way to Portland (in all fairness it was 10am before we were on the road). 

The drive to Portland, OR (2 hours) was pretty uneventful and the kids were pretty good.  We stopped in downtown for some Thai food which Theo said he would eat, and then of course did not.  Both boys didn’t seem too interested in the Thai food for lunch, so we ate quickly and took most of it to go.

Our main attraction for the day was the Portland Children’s Museum.  We debated on whether or not to go to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry of the Children’s Museum, but my thought was that the Children’s Museum would be 100% kid focused.  It ended up working out well.  It wasn’t crowded at all, which was perfect!  Both kids could wander around, there was seating for us exhausted parents, and it was fine if we separated in pairs for a little bit.  The rooms the boys enjoyed the most were the grocery store, pet hospital, art zone, transportation area, and the water works space (saved for last).    

For the night we’re at our best hotel on the trip.  We’re staying at a Marriott Resident’s Inn, near the river.  The room is a two bedroom suite-privacy for all!  There’s a full kitchen, Theo has his own room with a door, we have a room with a door, and Woodrow’s set-up in the living room.  Mason scoped out BJs restaurant and brewery for dinner, and we all enjoyed a “deep dish” pizza.  The boys LOVED it and scarfed down their food. 

We headed back to the hotel and took a quick jump in the outdoor pool.  It was a little chilly, but not as bad as I was expecting.  The boys had a blast!  I have super water babies.  They loved having a swim and then baths!  Double water time.  So far, they are sleeping smoothly as Mason edits some vacation photos, and I get to blogging.
