Sadly, this was our last morning to see my parents. I’m really glad that we got to see them, but
it’s especially hard to say goodbye when we don’t have our next visit all lined
up. Of course since we had plans to meet
at a certain time, everyone slept in. We
quickly got up, and medicated because of course we’re all sickies now! We met my parents at the Portland Avenue
Park, about 20 minutes from the base hotel and the kids had fun playing and
running around. It was a cool and misty
morning, despite the forecast that it was going to be hot.
We had a short bit of time before my parents had to head to
the airport for the flight so we decided to head over to the Chihuly Bridge of
Glass. Although it was a grey day, it
was really beautiful. Theo likes being
over the highway and checking out the cars and trains below with my mom. Sigh, we had to say goodbye here, which
really sucked! We hung around a bit
longer to take some pictures and then made our way along the waterfront back to
our car.
Mason found a local restaurant called Shakes, Shakes, Shakes
for lunch. It was pretty good. The boys were so happy for hot dogs. Woodrow has decided that he doesn’t like them
cut-up, so he just picks up the whole thing and chews away…this makes me just a
bit nervous, not like hot dogs are choking hazards, right?! Theo and I enjoyed chocolate shakes that were
YUMMY!
Not too far from us, was the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium
which we decided to explore. We ended up
staying three-and-a-half hours. We’re
zoo people.
J They had a huge fish/shark tank that we
explored, followed up by a wildlife show.
The zoo wasn’t crowded either-yay for naptime and kids being back in
school. Did you know that opossums only
live 1-3 years and have 13 babies at a time (oh, and the gestation period is 12
days)?! My favorite part was the walruses! They have 3 at this zoo, and there are only
12 in North American zoos. They’re
really interesting animals, and we were able to make it to the mammal talk
about walruses which was fascinating.
Although Theo keeps talking about the tigers, he finally saw a PEACOCK
and it was just wandering around the zoo, not in a cage. He thought that was pretty funny. There were two elephants which I was excited
to see, since I feel like elephants are becoming rare at zoos, but they were in
the inside “habitat” which I found a very depressing. They looked like they needed a hug. Woodrow eventually fell asleep in the
stroller and so Theo got some extended playtime in the children’s play area.
Whew! Another tiring
day for the parents! The kiddos fall
asleep in the car, but we don’t get our naps.
;) On our way home, Mason picked
up Thai food from Peanut Sauce Thai, and I grabbed Olive Garden for myself and
the boys. A dinner enjoyed by all! When we got back to our hotel room, Theo
claimed that he wanted to go straight to bed, and he laid down for a while, but
then decided that he wanted to eat some food (especially if he was going to get
a cookie afterwards). Woodrow enjoyed
his spaghetti to the max and downed several grapes and strawberries-these boys
are going to eat us out of our home by the time they’re teenagers. They sure are cute though!
