Mason's oral surgery went well this morning. We were at the dentist by 7:45 and he was getting doped up by 8:15. Lots of rules and instructions to go over. I spent most of my time at the pharmacy waiting for his drugs. They gave him Percocet and Motrin to help with the pain. He was a good sport. We got home around 10:00 and shortly after he was feeling sick to his stomach because he had swallowed so much blood (he's not allowed to spit) and so while trying to throw up some of that blood, he ended up gagging and passing out...I think he's going to fire me as a nurse since I jump to call 911 when he passes out and isn't breathing...he came to while I was on the phone with the 911 operator, but they came anyways to check him out. He's okay, they said it was just the effect of the meds they gave him when they knocked him out, plus the swallowed blood, and then standing up...he's on couch arrest most of the day today.
He spent some time icing his mouth with some frozen vegetables, and we changed his gauze earlier. His bleeding has mostly stopped, although he's still not feeling to good. After a long nap he tried some water and (is supposed to be taking more medicine) doesn't feel too well. He managed to take eat some applesauce before, and he's going to try to have some soup and mashed potatoes for dinner.
While he did have a restful afternoon, we did receive many calls from his squadron commander and other people in the support squadron, just seeing how he was doing, since the 911 call was reported. I don't think many of them realize that he is not on flight status...but they've been very nice to us. We have to go into the flight medicine doctors tomorrow morning, now sure what that's about...but we shall see...
On a completely other note- Mason finally saw the prairie dog (we think) that we have in our yard, so that gave him a smile. Rembrandt has been quite timid today, most likely due to that fact that he thinks we are trying to kill him. After the whole couch incident we thought we'd try to leave him alone but we really needed to thoroughly clean his cage. Yesterday, Mason swooped in and grabbed him out of the cage and put him in his ball to run in. We placed him in our standup shower, which has a ledge around the bottom so we figured he'd be safe in the confined area running around. We didn't want him unsupervised in the house, because we have Boric Acid around for the other critters. So we clean the cage and then go back to get Rembrandt and his ball had split into two. We figured that he must have banged into one of the walls, and it came apart. Needless to say we then had to go on a hamster hunt in our house. We saw that he hadn't gone too far, was only playing under our bed, but the whole act of getting him back into the ball and into the cage was quite comical. A good laugh for all but Rembrandt.
I've included some random pictures from August...so you too can have a chuckle.
