These sweet boys are keeping me on my toes, so it's hard to sneak away to write as many blog postings as I would like (at least in one sitting), but I'm trying to make mental notes about all the things I want to post about, and maybe someday I'll get caught up.
Woodrow is a sweet baby, just like his big brother. My mom was able to come spend three weeks with us when Woodrow was born. She stayed with Theo while we were in the hospital and got lots of bonding time with him, and then she spent lots of time with both boys once we came home. Yay Gram for taking the night shift and sitting up with Woodrow lots. Because the Air Force life keeps us stationed far from family, we're so lucky anytime we have visitors and when we get to travel home. We know we're never located in an easy or cheap travel destination, so we soak up all the time with the grandparents we can get.
Since we're in a one-story house now, we debated on whether or not we should set-up the pack-n-play this time around, but decided we should, since we didn't want all the traffic to be passing by Theo's room at all times of day, since his sleep had gotten so fragile. So, sweet Woodrow has his pack-n-play in the hallway/entryway of our house. It worked out well, because it was near the playroom where my mom was sleeping, and Woodrow was easily able to sleep in there different times of the day. It was also nice to have another changing station, because this little boy poops every 5 minutes!!! Seriously! We just laughed when the doctor asked if he was peeing/pooping 6-8 times a day, and said he had gone 3 times in the short time we'd been waiting for her. Pampers is getting their money from the Kehs'.
Woodrow was 8lbs. 9oz. at birth, and the last we weighed him on our own, he was about 10lbs. 5 oz. so we'll see where he weighs in with the doctor's office at his two month appointment. He's filling out a little more and definitely seems like he's gotten taller. The doctors were concerned for the first two weeks that he didn't have a huge weight gain, because our discharge and one week weights were 7lbs. 6oz., but I'd say our little guy is doing just fine. He was a little jaundice at birth, so Mason was really great about having sunshine time with him, and this time we did it inside, so no sunburns! In my opinion, Woodrow's complexion is a little darker than Theo's was, but he's got a full head of hair, dark blue eyes, and soft skin (even though it flakes off like a snake's skin). Theo definitely looked like a good mixture of both Mason and myself, and we think Woodrow is another "combo kid" but he always looks different. Even our friends say, "oh he looks just like Theo, wait, like Mason...no, now Ellen."
Woodrow is a good eater. It took about two-three weeks for nursing to get itself worked out, and once it really clicked and was less painful for me, it's been a good experience. He will take a bottle if needed, so that's a nice plus as well. (Mom gave us a date night and we left the boys with her!) He eats on average every three hours, but was doing some longer stints at night, 4-5 hours, and then from dinner-bedtime he'll eat closer to every two hours. And what goes in, definitely goes out (times 5)! The poor little guy, unfortunately, is a spitter-upper. I was worried about reflux and talked to the doctors and my friends about it, and not much we can do at this point. We burp him and keep him elevated after he eats, but it seems like he always spits up, sometimes even well after the meal is over, so we've gone through LOTS of outfits and burp cloths. Theo was not a spitter-upper, so this has been a new and not so fun experience. Woodrow definitely doesn't seem to agree so much with chocolate shakes or anything too chocolatey, so I'm trying to back off large quantities (like my delicious milkshakes), which I guess is good for both of us.
Being the little brother, and second child, we've realized that even though you have this teeny tiny little human, that's so fragile...they are actually pretty durable. Is that an acceptable term? Theo is always trying to give squeezes and kisses (head bangs) to Woodrow, so there's a lot of refereeing going on, but so far, no damage has been done. Theo thinks it's hilarious when Woodrow moves his arms and they touch him. He'll always shout of the body part that Woodrow touched, like he meant to do it.
Woodrow gets to sit in on music time and story time with big brother, but mostly for the first month he did lots of sleeping and snuggling with my mom and Mason. Over Labor Day weekend, we took a day trip to the Northern part of the Theodore Roosevelt State Park, so that was Woodrow's first state-park trip and we crossed into Mountain Time for about half a mile (a first for both boys, and possibly myself-what's Washington state?)
He likes to be on his tummy, just like Theo did! Woodrow actually did roll over twice from his tummy to his back unassisted, so maybe he'll be an early mover. He is good about sleeping in the swaddle, but enjoys having his arms out so we swaddled him that way for about 3 weeks, and then once Gram left and Mason went to work, I swaddled his arms in too at night in an attempt to get a little longer sleep hoping his startle reflex would lessen, and it helped.
Another sweet bundle of joy to love!
