COVID-19

These are strange times.  Generally, Mason and I are not ones to buy into mass hysteria.  We don't regularly watch the news, we form our opinions about politics, we don't seek out social media feuding about controversial topics.  When the Corona virus started hitting the news we paid a little attention, since we know people overseas that were affected by quarantines and such.  Then is started spreading to Europe. 

Mason had a work trip scheduled for later this month to Germany.  My mom was all lined up to come watch the boys for 9 days so I could go with Mason.  We were very excited to take our first trip to Europe together, and to a beautiful part of Germany, Oberammergau.  Long story short.  That got cancelled.  Financially it will cost us, as my portion of the trip isn't reimbursed, but more so the time we were looking forward to in an amazing spot was going to be precious.  We had fun adventures to go on and sights to see.  One of my friends who lives in Germany was even going to travel to see me. 

So. We do what we do, and I go into back-up plan mode.  What if we drove to the Rocky Mountain National Park and did some hiking.  My mom agreed to still come watch the boys, and Mason's leave was approved.  The weather in the Rockies is still quite wintery now, but we decided we'd do what we could. 

The boys started Spring break yesterday.  It is scheduled that they're out of school from March 13th-22nd.  So far they haven't cancelled school past that, although many states are cancelling for weeks at a time.  We aren't holding our breath.  the Governor has stated it there are 2 cases of community spread of the virus, then schools will get cancelled for 6-8 weeks...basically taking us until the end of the school year. 

All of these decisions made now are going to have long term effects for the whole year.  We don't know what that will look like yet.  No one does.  Yesterday we spent the day enjoying our first day of Spring Break.  Another post to come soon.

This morning we woke up to a few inches of snow and a DoD ban on travel.  No Rocky Mountains.  In the scheme of things, we're healthy, I have the ability to be home, work from home, and homeschool if necessary.  We aren't afraid of the virus.  On the nice days, we'll be outside and trying to enjoy our favorite nature places while we can.

Strange times.
