Time to Pack Up

It’s been a busy week. In early June our moving company sent a surveyor to our house to mark what we had to move.  They do this to plan what packing supplies they need to send etc...my estimate was we’d be a two day pack/load the truck.  They scheduled us for three packing days and one load day.  

Last Thursday the first packers arrived at our house in Park Ridge.  There was a team of three women.  Becky and Alyssa were definitely the experienced packers and the third woman was in training...she spent most of her day packing books.  They worked 9-4:30 and had most of the house well underway.   They were nice about packing most everything including food items, candles, etc...unfortunate they emptied all the furniture (dressers, file cabinets, etc).  I prefer they just leave everything in them, less work on the other end for me, but oh well.  Luckily for us my parents took the boys for the day so they weren’t running around.  The packing days and day before are super stressful.  The few days before they arrived, I’d spent organizing everything that we need in the cars.  We aren’t guaranteed a delivery date, so you have to plan for things you might need up to a few weeks out.  Things we brought in our cars that had to be separated were things like: sleeping bags, folding chairs, pillows, towels, cleaning supplies, TP, clothes for each person, activity bags and a few toys for the kids, uniforms, coolers and water bottles, electronics.  Mostly small items but they add up in space in the car.  

Friday morning just Becky and Alyssa returned.  They were there about 9-1:30. Becky finished packing a few things in the house and started labeling the box and creating the inventory lists while Alyssa started packing the garage- poor, poor girl.  Then we were left with boxes until Tuesday since they didn’t need to pack Monday.  Again, it was nice that most of the furniture was still available for sitting/sleeping since the truck crew wraps the furniture, but we were minus all cooking supplies and things like the computer and Tv.  We decided to stay in our house since we had the furniture, and space.  Sometimes in the past this would be when we’d relocate to a hotel.  

We spent the weekend and Monday visiting with family and starting our goodbyes which was hard but nice to see everyone.  This was a special year for us getting time with family and a low stress work environment for Mason.  

Tuesday morning we packed up our linens and curtains, loaded things in the car, and a team four guys: Chris, Bryan, Gio, and I can’t remember.  These guys were great.  They were super sweet to Max.  Theo and Woodrow slept over at my parent’s house Monday night so we kept Max with us Tuesday and he just followed the movers around all day...plus he loved the truck! The guys worked hard from 9-2 and then realized there was a small group of items that weren’t going to fit in the truck. I was shocked that our things weren’t all going to fit on this semi.  We’ve added a few furniture pieces this year, but still I was surprised.  They ended up having to drive back to their base with the full semi and came back with a smaller pack truck. This took only about 30 minutes to load, but it wasn’t until about 5:30pm.  The semi will be here on Monday to deliver our large shipment but the other items will come separately.  Fortunately it’s nothing too critical.  

All in all the first stage went well, and hopefully things arrive in good condition.
