Woodrow turned three-and-a-half in February and I was internally celebrating because while I love my babies to stay little, Woodrow as a three year old is giving me a run for my money. This little boy is feisty and fearless. It seems like one minute everything will be perfect and magically and the next I'm on my knees in tears struggling how to provide whatever it is he needs.
Woodrow has always been a standoffish from a very young age, but this year he has really started to come out of his shell and talk to others, grownups and kids. Not to say he doesn't still give the stink eye. It's fun to see him open up and lately he's quite expressive and talkative about our adventures.
Theo and Woodrow have become quite good buddies and play together nicely. It's been fun to see Woodrow's imagination expand now that he plays so much with Theodore. Not to say that they don't argue, because they certainly do. I recently read a book about raising boys and it really helped me to understand their wild side.
Right when Woodrow turned three he was into sharks and thought they were pretty cool. By Christmas he was obsessed with airplanes. We used new airplane toys as rewards for potty training (which is complete now-except for we do keep him in a pull-up at night for the occasional accident). Woodrow loves seeing the various planes that come through Guam and sometimes we get to go to one of Mason's "work offices" to watch the planes take off. The boys also really enjoy playing Star Wars and Superheroes.
Mason is great about having "guy time" with the boys and Woodrow has gotten so much better at building legos. It amazes me how the boys can just build things from their imaginations- I do not have that gift. Woodrow has gone on hikes with Mason. Woodrow enjoys adventuring and definitely likes our beach adventures. He's gotten better with swimming and is quite adventurous.
Woodrow's moved on to wearing size 3T clothes, is growing tall, and loves to wear sandals or rainboots. He is clear to distinguish between gym shoes and sandals. This boy doesn't miss a meal. His favorite food is probably peanut butter and jelly and he loves to sneak treats (cookies). He likes "yogurt gogurt", cheesesticks, waffles, 'hockgogs' (hotdogs) french toast sticks, cinnamon toast, Fettucini, Pesto, and garlic bread to name a few favorites.
This boy is so active. He's essentially given up naps yet needs one. If he naps he's bouncing off the walls until 10pm and he's usually up between 7-8am. Unfortunately Woodrow isn't the best sleeper and he frequently decides to sleep on the floor. For a few weeks he tried sleeping on the top bunk, but then moved back to the floor, so now he's back to the bottom bunk. Woodrow went with Mason and Theo on his first beach camping trip in January, and now when we go grocery shopping he talks about what we should buy for the next camp out. We got the boys scooters for Christmas and I had no idea how much they would love them. He is fearless on his scooter and he rides so fast! I think he will definitely be our athletic boy.
Despite the many challenges Woodrow throws at us (moods, biting, spitting, hitting, etc...), he really and truly is a super sweet boy. He gives the funniest faces, he loves to snuggle. Sometimes I just remind myself he needs hugs instead of a harsh voice, but it's hard to remember in the moment. I can't wait to see what the rest of this year holds for Woodrow. He is so loved.
