FestPac

Every 4 years, since 1972 islands in the Pacific have had a festival called "FestPac" for a two week festival that highlights the different island cultures and artists.  The location changes so we were lucky enough to get to experience it here in Guam.  There were delegates and people from:  American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Easter Island, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji Islands, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Norfold Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanatu, Wallis, and Futuna.

We decided to check it out as a family, and unfortunately missed a lot of the cultural dancing which we were hoping to see, but we got to see a drumming demonstration and walk through all of the artisan tents which highlighted many different handmade items from fans, clothing, jewelry, etc...we also got to see some animals, and witness men carving trees with saws.

 It was pretty warm on the day that we went, and Woodrow was acting pretty lethargic.  We thought he was just sleepy, but by the time we went to a restaurant for lunch Woodrow had a fever and threw up a little.  So we decided to skip the dancing shows in the afternoon and cut our losses while we were ahead with the little man.

A week later, Theo had the same 24 hour bug, so Mason and Woodrow had a special date night to go to the closing ceremony of Fest Pac.  I'm so glad they had the special time together.  The ceremony was long, and Theo and I were able to catch parts of it on TV.  It was a lot like an Olympic Ceremony where there were a lot of presenting of gifts, speeches, and clapping, but there were a few performances.
