Canada Trip: Day 4- Waterton Lakes National Park

We stuck to our "normal" routine and slept in late.  Thankfully there was just the one night of craziness with the boys and they managed to go to sleep pretty well all other nights of the trip, until the last night.  We went to a restauraunt called Pearls for breakfast.  I think by the time we got there it was 10:45am and breakfast ended at 11am.  Woodrow wasn't really in a sit and eat mood, but Theo and I both ordered Apple Pie French Toast.  It was really tasty, but very sweet.  Mason got a ham and cheese stuffed french toast (or something like that).  This morning it was a little chilly, so we packed up after breakfast in our cooler weather gear and rain attire and headed on a hike at Blakiston Falls.

"Guys, the trail is this way."

The Blakiston Falls hike was about 1.2 miles round trip with a minimal elevation gain.  There wasn't a ton of parking available, but we ended up parking in the empty horse trailer lot and that worked out well.  I think we were all a bit moody after Woodrow's breakfast wiggles and refusal to eat food.  We ended up hiking past the falls until the trail narrowed and Mason couldn't take Woodrow whining in his ear any longer.  Who brought these kids?  We love our kids.

It was a really nice temperature for hiking which did help life spirits.  The waterfalls were very pretty, and we saw another ground squirrel as soon as we opened some snacks.    Theo had a good time, but was pretty chatty along the trail.  Woodrow was pretty fussy until the return trip when we let him fuss and then convinced him that playing tag would be fun.  So, Mason and Theo would walk ahead and Woodrow would follow trying to tag them.  Mason spotted a caterpillar crawling on our hike back.  I'm not sure if the caterpillar survived the Kehs boys.  They were very interested in the caterpillar, and may have rolled him onto his back...

At the trailhead we walked along the Red Rock Canyon.  We only walked a small part of this trail, because the kids were pretty much done and parents were pretty much done with whining.  There were some people climbing down into the small canyon along the small river, which would have been fun on a warmer day with more agreeable children.

By this time it was later in the afternoon, so we decided to head back to our room for a rest.  The kids watched some tv, had lunch, and we lounged around to refresh and regroup.  There was a park about two blocks from our lodging, so after a nice rest we took the kids over to play and get their energy out.  I was happy to sit and rest my sore feet, and the boys were happy to play and do "normal" kid things.  For dinner we tried a small grill in the townsite.  I'm pretty sure this was our most expensive meal of the trip and one of the least impressive.  The food was okay, but the price was ridiculous!  We of course ended up the evening with a little bit of ice cream and milkshakes before bed.
