Hiking: Walnut Creek Lake Trail (4)

I wasn't sure if we should count this as a "hike" since walking around a lake on a paved trail seems like a walk, but the length was definitely as long as some of our forested hikes, so we're going to count it.

Last Sunday we got a beautiful break in the weather and it was 50 degrees outside, and sunny!  Double win.  We knew we wanted to get outside in some capacity, but with the warmed up temperatures we figured many trails would be muddy from melting snow.  We had friends that wanted to hike/be outside with us, and after tossing back and forth some ideas, we decided to walk the Walnut Creek Lake Trail that's about 10 minutes from our house.

Ironically, we haven't done this before.  I've driven over with the kids, but it's not shaded and so we avoided it during the summer months.  The trail is paved and it was full of runners, bikers, and walkers out enjoying the day.  We met up with our friends late afternoon to walk the 3 mile loop.  With five little boys our journey took about 90 minutes.  We walked slowly, had good conversation, and were having meltdowns by the end...all signs of a good hike.

We got some good views as the sun was lowering for the evening and made it home in time to take warm baths, cozy up and watch the Super Bowl with the kiddos.  I am really enjoying our family outings and am glad we started off February with some good outdoor time.  Later this month everyone has a four day weekend, so I'm hoping for some decent weather to get in some more outdoor adventuring.
