Just as we did when heading to Tennessee we decided to break the drive up over two days. This would allow us to get home at a reasonable time on Sunday before school started, while allowing us time to linger around Saturday morning if we wanted. We did a quick drive through Gatlinburg Saturday morning to see if there were some tshirt stops so Mason could grab a tshirt (it was rainy and we didn't find much-but Santa delivered this Christmas). We passed through Pigeon Forge on our way out of town which was an experience and grabbed some Five Guys before really hitting the road.
The drive was dreary, but colorful. It was pretty uneventful and we made it with a few pit stops to our over night stop just over the Kentucy/Indiana border. Theo was thrilled to stay at "The Hamptons" again. The kids were a little rowdy, so we grabbed some pizza for dinner, did hotel room workouts, a short walk and took them for an ice cream treat right outside of our hotel.
Sundays drive was pretty straightforward and gloomy too. We made it
home early afternoon which allowed us to settle in back home, finish up a
bit of laundry and prepare for school and work the next day. It was
overall a great adventure and we had lots of family fun.
