My goal of blogging more frequently this year has not been going well so far. Hopefully I'll be able to keep at it going forward. Where to begin, where to begin...so much has been going on this past month.
Things are going well with our upcoming move. Last week our Household Goods (HHG) shipment was packed and picked up. They had scheduled a Thursday and Friday for packing and loading a truck on Monday. Mason and I did a really great job leading up to the packers coming with donating things that we don't need or use any more, or things that we can easily purchase again when they are needed. It's really nice that we have a Thrift Shop and the Airmen's Attic on base that accept donations. We also worked hard to sort out which items needed to go in storage and which items we want to take to Guam. The housing is smaller in Guam (and no garage) and since the weather is so humid and outdoor items have to be able to be stored in case of typhoons we are not taking everything with us. Slowly the majority of our storage items made their way to one side of our garage to be out of the way, since they get picked up in another shipment this month.
The other hard part that I was not that excited about, and may have majorly procrastinated on was setting aside our Airline Luggage, and our Unaccompanied Baggage (this will get picked up the end of March and get sent by air). It was hard packing bags for clothes we still needed in Minot and what we'll want traveling to Guam and then in Guam until our next shipment comes. We kept out a few books, toys, and activities to entertain the boys. We put the majority of those items in one of our larger closets and then everything we didn't want packed in our HHG shipment got a strip of red duct tape on it. I kept joking it looked like the Passover in our house.
Fortunately the kids and I were out of the house on Thursday morning with preschool and a visit to the Y. By the time we returned home with lunch for the packers they had made pretty significant progress. For most of the day it was just two guys who were great. In the afternoon two other packers showed up and that actually seemed to slow things down because there was an increase in smoke breaks and chatting. The boys were a little wild at this point so we had them running around in Theo's room. After the workers were taking a break we decided to nap the boys and we'd wake them if the packers needed back in their rooms. Luckily the packers decided that they could load our belongings on Friday which was nice since we wouldn't have to keep the boys off boxes all weekend.
They showed up early on Friday morning and we done finishing packing and loading the crates by 1:30pm on Friday! Totally impressed by them and happy we had done so well with organizing. It was an exhausting day, but it was nice that we could "set-up" house Friday night. The house is very empty, but also kind of nice to have minimal things. We have a desk with our computer, one of our couches, and a smaller tv. Woodrow has his crib, Theo is in a sleeping bag, and Mason and I have an air-mattress. There are a few dishes, toys, suitcases, and other items, but not much else.
And this begins the month of fun!
