Mason and I had our taste of freedom when we had a few kid-free days at his Weapons School graduation in June 2014, and since then Mason's been asking...so, when do we get to do that again? Fortunately my parents were on board to watch the two crazies so Mason and I could escape for a little bit. We tossed around lots of ideas, but knew we'd basically have to go around the holiday time frame since we'd already have the kiddos near family. We were hoping to get away for a little bit longer in January, but duty called, so we just had a few days to sneak away.
In the end, after looking at lots of different options, we booked a room at the Trump Tower in Chicago with a Riverfront view and enjoyed downtown for two days. It was amazing! If you have little kids, and you have someone in your life who's willing to watch your kiddos for you, even if it's just one overnight-do it! We're very thankful for our family and for our kids who adapted pretty easy to having us skip out for a little bit.
We were bums. We didn't want to load up our schedule too much, and so we just took advantage of going to a movie (Sisters) without paying a babysitter, eating dinner out at some of our favorite restaurants (PF Changs), checking out an Improv show (at Second City), walking around downtown, checking out the Trump pool, and just sitting and enjoying quiet. Staying up late and sleeping in.
It was a great mini vacation!!!
